ABOUT 10 UPND members in Kasempa have defected to the ruling Patriotic Front led by former district youth Chairperson Goodson Lobela.
Mr Lobela said he had laboured for UPND for many years but had not seen anything good from the opposition party.
He said the youth of Kasempa had decided to work with the government of the day because they did not want to remain behind in terms of development.
“On behalf of my colleagues, I want to say that we do not want to continue associating ourselves with the opposition because we have realised that the UPND has no future,” Mr Lobela said.
He assured the PF leadership in the district the defectors total commitment to the PF.
“I also want to assure you that we will vigorously campaign for the PF candidate in Nkenyauna Kilan Matolokoshi ahead of Thursday’s by-election,” he said.
And receiving the defectors, Kasempa PF district chairman Japhet Njamba said all the defectors were embraced as PF members without discrimination because the ruling party was for everyone.
He said politics was about numbers and the party needed more members, stressing that, President Edgar Lungu needed more members in the party.
