ZAMBIA Railways Limited has signed a tripartite agreement with Tanzania-Zambia Railways and Delta Energy Zambia to transport fuel in the country.
ZRL Chief Executive Officer Christopher Musonda said the agreement would culminate in the transportation of fuel for the Zambian government in line with the newly introduced statutory instrument number 7 of 2018.
Mr Musonda said the agreement would also consolidate and provide guidance to the business relationship of all parties involved.
He said the partnership with Delta Energy was further going to help reduce the pressure on the roads and the safety risks associated with transporting fuel by road.
Speaking during the signing ceremony in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Musonda said ZRL would remain focused and committed to ensuring that all products and services compete favourably in the transportation sector.
Delta Energy Corporate Affairs Manager Bertha Muligalwe said the agreement was going to help develop both the energy and transport sector.
Ms Maligalwe said her company believed that the development of critical sectors such as transport within the country not only advanced economic growth but make the business environment more attractive for investment.
She said Delta Energy was going to ensure that it complied with the decision by government and the National Assembly enactment of S.I No. 7 that compels businesses to transport at least 30 percent of their products through rail.
“As a Zambian company we believe the development of critical sectors such as transport within the country not only advances economic growth but makes the business environment more attractive for investment in the country,” she said.
