GREEN Eagles’ hopes of progressing to the quarter finals of the CECAFA-Kagame cup suffered a major setback after a shock 1-0 defeat to Armée Patriotique Rwandaise APR FC in yesterday’s group C fixture.
An own goal from central defender Bornface Sunzu handed Eagles their first defeat at the tournament after their 2-0 win over Heegan FC in their first game.
Eagles defeat stunned coach Aggrey Chiyangi who described the game against APR FC as tough.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Chiyangi said his boys tried their best to triumph but were unfortunate because APR FC played well.
However, Chiyangi cautioned match officials at the tournament to be professional in the way they handled fixtures for the sake of fair play.
“We have lost yes and they scored a good goal but I think some of the off-sides the second official was calling were not off-sides and if a game should be determined like that then it is not fair because this is a competition,” Chiyangi complained.
The win over Eagles propelled APR FC to six points in group-C while Eagles and their next opponents Prolline FC maintained second and third place with three points each. Eagles will now seek maximum points when they face Prolline FC with the winner expected to march on to the quarter finals of the tournament which features defence force teams from central and southern African countries.
