MORE than 1, 000 jobs have been created at AVIC International following the engaging of more than 94 sub-contractors in Chingola, Mufulira and Kitwe.
Additionally, 700 jobs have been created at Kafulafuta Dam project under China National Complete Engineering Cooperation (CCEC) following the engaging of over 30 local companies.
Consortium of Local Contractors and Allied Suppliers (ColCAS) President John Chilupula said AVIC International and CCEC have set a good example in adhering to the 20 per cent sub-contract value of works to local contractors.
This, he said, entailed that there would be capacity building and skills transfer to Zambians.
Mr Chilupula said in Kitwe yesterday that AVIC International had engaged over 94 subcontractors from Chingola, Mufulira and Kitwe, thereby, creating in excess of 1, 200 jobs.
“We wish to thank AVIC International for being cooperative and for showing willingness to revise the rates for materials being issued to the local contractors working on the Zambia Township Roads (ZTR) projects. “And also for their willingness to accept insurance bonds for advance payment and preliminary and general items for site mobilization,’’ Mr Chilupula said.
Mr Chilupula also said his organisation was impressed that more than 700 jobs have been created at Kafulafuta Dam project following the engaging of over 30 local companies.
“We expect this trend to spread to other projects across the country.
This is quite encouraging as the two main contractors are still willing to engage more sub-contractors
“We also wish to extend our gratitude to the office of the Special Assistant to the President for Projects Monitoring and Implementation and the National Council for Construction for the support rendered,’’ he added T
