MUSOFU residents in Mkushi have appealed to Government to connect the area to the national power grid.
In an interview with the Daily Nation, Patriotic Front (PF) Musofu ward chairman Hezron Chintala said, it was time Musofu ward was connected to the national power grid for development.
Mr. Chintala said the area was lagging behind in development because of lack of Zesco power.
Mr. Chintala said the point from where power could be tapped was 15km away from the chief Chitina’s palace.
He said power for Musofu Health post and Mission Secondary School could then be tapped from the same point.
Mr. Chintala noted that connecting Musofu ward to national grid would also benefit Musofu rural health facility in terms of storage of drugs.
Mr. Chintala said the development would not only benefit the health post alone, but the Mission secondary school in enhancing computer lessons. “We are living in the computer age were electricity is very significant especially on education in subjects such as Information Communication and Technology ICT. Pupils at Musofu Secondary School are behind due to lack of power, “Mr. Chintala said.
Mr. Chintala added that there was need by government to install power at the two institutions to improve operations. He said installation of power to Musofu ward would agitate social and economic development of the area as people would engage various business activities that required power.
