THE Zambia under-20 women’s team coach Charles Halubono has declared his charges ready for today’s COSAFA Under-20 championship fixture against eSwatini.
Speaking in an interview Halubono said the team was ready for the maiden regional under-20 championship being played in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
Halubono said the teams target is to go past the group stage at the tournament which has attracted six teams from the region.
“We just want to go beyond the group stages. It is a fair group. We have never played most of the teams but it appears to be a fair group.
“Our target is to win the first game, when we start with a win then we are set to progress,” Halubono said.
Group B consists of Botswana, Tanzania and eSwatin.
Halubono said the inaugural COSAFA youth championship for girls is important for the development of women’s football in Zambia because it gives the players the opportunity to develop their careers.
