….Mvunga advises players to invest wisely

THE 2019 COSAFA winning players have been advised not to go wild with the little money earned from the tournament as that can be their downfall.

Zambia on Saturday won their fifth COSAFA title after a 1-0 win over Botswana in a final played at Moses Mabhida Stadium in South Africa. The champions pocketed SAR500, 000 (about K450, 000).

Addressing the Chipolopolo team upon arrival at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) in Lusaka yesterday, government representative, deputy secretary to the Cabinet, Christopher Mvunga, advised the players not to spend the money on alcohol but to invest it wisely by buying plots.

“When you succeed, the danger is failure. I was once a soccer player and the success of a soccer career is discipline. The little money you have gotten, let’s ask City Council to give you plots, you buy plots. If you are going to drink, we will start watching the next generation.

You are trendsetters, don’t go for alcohol and dagger, and just concentrate on your training. There is no great player who’s had no discipline, all great players are disciplined.” Mvunga said.

He said government was proud of the team’s success at COSAFA and was looking forward to more victories in up-coming engagements.

He said the Zambian people needed the trophy as they heal from a failed Africa Cup qualifier.

Meanwhile, interim coach Aggrey Chiyangi said team work earned Zambia the fifth title.

Chiyangi said he valued each player’s contribution and was unfortunate that he could not use everyone.

He said the players needed the experience earned at COSAFA as the team shifts attention to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament. Zambia will face Botswana in the CHAN second round qualifier tie next month.

The Zambia Soccer Fans Association gave the team a hero’s welcome while captain Adrian Chama hoisted the trophy to the fans.
