A 44-YEAR-OLD man has sued his wife for divorce alleging that she got married to another man when he was in prison for three years.

This is in a case in which John Chanda of Garden House compound sued his wife, Patricia Chanda, 34, for being unfaithful.

The two got married in 2005 and have two children but dowry was not paid.

Chanda told Senior Court Magistrates Pauline Newa sitting with Miyanda Banda at Matero Local Court that all was well until November 5, 2015 when he was arrested by ZAWA for being in possession of bush meat and jailed for three years.

He was however pardoned by the President on Christmas Day last year.

He explained that he was shocked to find that the same ZAWA officer who arrested him was the man who married Patricia.

In defence, Patricia said that she also wanted divorce because Chanda had been in Police cells several times for collecting money from people after he stopped work.

She explained that she left Chanda and started renting a house and she later heard that he had been jailed.

She said apart that Chanda did not pay dowry.

“The man who married me is a ZAWA officer but I don’t know if he was the one who arrested Chanda but I told him that we divorced and that Chanda was arrested by ZAWA,’’ said Patricia.

In submission, Chanda said that he just wanted to divorce Patricia to be free so that she continued staying with her new husband.

Patricia said that she wanted the house because Chanda had been getting rentals alone. But Chanda countered  and said that Patricia had been getting rental since he was jailed.

The court adjourned the matter to a later date for judgment since both parties had no court fee.
