THE contractor working on the Lusaka decongestion project should speed up to ease the traffic situation in the city, some motorists have demanded.

Those talked too said they hoped the project would be completed on schedule because the problem of traffic congestion had become unbearable.

However, some motorists said they were happy with the pace of the construction works on the Arcades Flyover Bridge and Makeni Flyover Bridge which was being undertaken by AFcons Infrastructure Limited.

A motorist, Andrew Kayombo told the Daily Nation that despite construction going on at the two sites, traffic was moving normally and people were going about their normal duties without disturbances.

Mr Kayombo is hoping that the project would be complete before schedule and urged the contractor to undertake quality works for value for money.

Mr Kayombo said the project would help decongest traffic in the capital city.

Another motorist Misozi Daka said the road infrastructure development that the country had embarked on was a welcome move.

There is need for a city also to have a proper road network as was the case with other cities across Africa.

“Once the flyover bridges are done and the expansion of the roads in city finished, this will help decongest our roads and traffic movement would be smooth,” said Ms Daka.

AFcon is also expected to build a flyover bridge at Kafue and Kabwe roundabouts.
