LUSAKA City Council and Zambia Police Service in the capital city have received a donation of dust bins from Lusaka businessman Afzal Essa in conjunction with Habib Industries Limited as a contribution to the keep Zambia clean campaign.
Mr Essa, who is the director of Zedverts Zambia Limited, donated the dustbins to various police stations, police posts, Kamwala clinic and Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA).
Speaking when he made the donations yesterday, Mr Essa said the dustbins were part of the “Keep Zambia Clean campaign” by his firm as he desired to contribute to making Zambia the cleanest country in SADC region.
He, however, called for concerted efforts for all Zambians to join hands and work together in the spirit of one Zambia one nation to make the country clean.
Mr Essa said the donation was also part of corporate social responsibility to give back to the community as well as remain committed to support and encourage others to do likewise.
And Mr Essa appealed to youths to take interest in picking up bottles or products littering back yards and streets that could be recycled as that was an opportunity for the unemployed youths to earn a living.
“We should not just be taking part in cleaning on the last Saturday of the month, but to be cleaning our surroundings on daily basis and like that we will combat cholera and other water borne diseases,” said Mr Essa.
