CONSTRUCTION of a mini library to be named after veteran freedom fighter Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe in Matero Township will enhance literacy levels, says Kapwepwe ward 25 councillor, Patrick Salubusa.
Mr Salubusa said the library was scheduled to be completed this year.
In an interview yesterday, the civic leader said it was important to continue honouring freedom fighters such as First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda and others as a way of keeping Zambia’s rich history.
He said it was important for the new generation to know the contribution and sacrifices made by former leaders and gain inspiration.
Meanwhile, Mr Salubusa said the lease agreement between Lusaka City Council and Homestay Zambia over the construction of a shopping hall next to Lilanda Site office would create employment for the young people in the ward.
“The demolishing of makeshift shops turned into taverns at Kalukungu market will be done in 2019 since the extended grace period is coming to an end,” he said.
He said calls for re-planning of Desai market which would see law, order and cleanliness at the market would be worked on by the LCC planning, legal and public health departments this year
