ILLEGAL estate agents in Ndola are on the loose swindling unsuspecting residents out of their money after widely advertising for plots, which do not exist.
The fake estate agents are particularly targeting retirees, who have received their dues, offering them attractive terms of payment when in fact the plots do not exist.
To attract unsuspecting residents, the scammers are putting out adverts on flyers, posters and Facebook purporting to be selling plots in new airport area, Kabwe Roan and Bwana Mkubwa.
One such advertisement was issued on flyers whatsapp groups and posters under the banner headline ‘100 plots released for Easter empowerment for Copperbelt.’
“This is a great investment opportunity for you. If you have business plans for lodges and houses for rent then this is your chance,” one advert read.
But Ndola City Counciil Public Relations Manager, Tilyenji Mwanza, said there were no land which had been released anywhere including the airport area and cautioned the public against falling prey to such illegal offers.
“The Ndola City Council would, like to state that anyone who will buy these illegal plots, will be doing so at their own risk,” she warned.
She said added that the council would issue any building permits to anyone for the plots which were being sold illegally.
Ms Mwanza warned all those who were carrying out any illegal activities in the affected area to stop or risk having their structures demolished.
“The council would like to warn that anyone found carrying out any illegal construction in the affected area, will have their building demolished, in accordance with the Urban and Regional Planning Act No. 3, Section 49, of 2015,” she said
