ZAMBIA last evening failed to break the 22-year winningless streak against Cameroon after they lost 2-1 in an international friendly match played in Madrid, the Spanish capital.

The Zambia rear-guard led by skipper Chongo Kabaso could not stop the Central African team from extending their dominance at Estadio Cerro del Espino Majadahonda.

Zambia last beat Cameroon in 1997 with a 3-0 win in a friendly match.
The Indomitable Lions took the lead three minutes into the opening half through a George Ntep header.

Zambia then got into some rhythm to offer some attacking threat, with Fashion Sakala and Patson Daka shooting over the bar in the eighth and 12th minutes respectively.

Justine Shonga missed an opportunity to equalise for Zambia when his effort went wide in the 22nd minute. Augustine Mulenga and Enock Mwepu also missed a chance to level scores before half-time. Stand-in coach Beston Chambeshi made a double substitute in the 57th minute when he introduced South African premier league top scorer Mwape Musonda and midfielder Emmanuel Banda for Sakala and Shonga with the hope of getting an equaliser.

But the Chipolopolo conceded a second goal in the 72nd minute after Allan Chibwe failed to stop a Joel Taguel shot. Musonda managed to pull one back for Zambia three minutes after.

Cameroon are preparing for the African Cup of Nations tournament in Cairo, Egypt later this month.  They are the defending champions.
