POLICE in Luanshya have summoned National Democratic Congress (NDC) consultant Chishimba Kambwili for questioning over a shooting incident and malicious damage.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga said police officers had arrested a NDC official last week, who had implicated the NDC consultant.
Mr Kambwili separately confirmed receiving a police call out which indicated that he should have appeared at Luanshya police station yesterday in the morning.
He however explained in an interview with the Daily Nation that he was unable to appear before the police as his lawyers had a commitment in court the whole of yesterday.
“My lawyers are busy so we cannot go today (yesterday). After I speak with my lawyers, we will communicate on the day we can go and see them,” he said.
Mr Kambwili stated that he had not been furnished with reasons why he was being sought.
“They have blocked all the roads leading to the police station. The whole Kamfinsa is here and what they want from me I don’t know. There are a lot of cases reported against Bowman Lusambo (Lusaka Province Minster) and Kaizer Zulu (Presidential Political adviser) and they have not been summoned,” he wondered.
But Ms Katanga said her officers want to interview Mr Kambwili over an incident that occurred in Luanshya during the campaigns for the Roan parliamentary seat last week.
Ms Katanga said NDC member a Mr Lupindula who was arrested last week for assault and malicious damage to property had implicated Mr Kambwili.
She said the questioning was in line with the arrest of the NDC member as well as other cases of shooting that had been reported to the police.
She said the NDC consultant had not reported to the police station, indicating that his lawyers were committed elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Ms Katanga dismissed reports that police had sealed Mr Kambwili’s residence as false and designed to mislead members of the public.
She said no officer from Copperbelt Division headquarters nor Luanshya police station had gone to Mr Kambwili’s house.
She added that a date would be communicated when Mr Kambwili would appear for questioning adding that for now officers would continue with investigations.
