KANSANSHI mine should closely work with government to better the lives of people in Solwezi district, says North western province permanent secretary, Willies Mangimela.

Mr Mangimela said the provincial administration recognized the various corporate social responsibility projects the mining company had done to better the lives of people in the mining town.

He said government needed more of such projects to further development in the area and help people live meaningful lives.

‘’My appeal to you as a mining firm is that let us continue working together closely so that at the end of the day we better the lives of our people through service delivery,’’ Mr Mangimela said.

He was speaking when the newly appointed Kansanshi mine general manager David Davilis called on him at his office at the weekend.

He observed that there was need for the mining company to extend its corporate social responsibility programs from education and agriculture to road infrastructure.

He said most township roads in the district needed to be upgraded to bituminous standard.

‘’And to do that as government we need support from the mines if the goal has to be realised,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Davillis assured the permanent secretary that the mining firm would continue working with government as partners in developing the mining district.

He said the mining company’s desire was to ensure that it supplements government’s efforts through the corporate social responsibility programs.
