PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has appointed a new board for the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), replacing the one led by John Kasanga.
Minister of Finance, Bwalya Ng’andu said at a media briefing in Lusaka that the tenures of office for the previous board expired.
He said the new appointments were in accordance with Section 6G of the FIC act number 46, of 2010.
Dr. Ng’andu thanked Mr. John Kasanga, for his contribution as interim board chair. He also thanked the other members of the previous board for their tireless efforts in furtherance of the objectives of the FIC.
He named the new FIC board chairperson as George Siame.
Other members included Justice Prisca Nyambe, Pelagia Kalunga, Mike Goma and Regina Mulenga.
“I have no doubt that with your diversity and experience, you will be equal to the task and continue to make the Financial Intelligence Centre the leading institution in anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism,” he said.
Dr.Ng’andu advised the new board that corporate governance required the board of directors to limit their roles to policy oversight and leave operational matters to the employees of the institution.
“As non-executive board, you need to ensure that you do not interfere with the operations of the institution,” he said.
