CONSTRUCTION of Makeche bridge in Mkushi has reached an advanced stage, Shouderline Investment engineer Luckson Ngulube has said.
Mr Ngulube told the Daily Nation during an the spot check that 75 percent of the work had been done.
He said construction of the bridge would have been concluded within the given project time frame, but delays in supply of materials by the local authority had stalled operations.
Mr Ngulube, however, assured the people of Mkushi in particular Itala residents, that the bridge would be finished by the month end,
Mr Ngulube said initially the project was supposed to be done within two months but three weeks was wasted due to lack of materials.
“I’m sure by the end of this month, we are going to try, maybe what is going to remain is just minor works,” Mr. Ngulube said.
Mr. Ngulube added that on the part of the bridge he was working on, trucks of 20 tonnes capacity will be eligible to cross without affecting the life span of the bridge.
And Mkushi District Council chairman Evans Bwalya said he was happy with the work done on the bridge so far.
“Over K247,000 had been budgeted for construction of Makeche bridge from Constituency Development Fund and equalization funds,” Mr. Bwalya said.
