A Sales manager has been sentenced to 24 months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing K24, 791 from his employers.
Abel Nyimbili, 26 of Chifubu Township was convicted of theft by servant.
Between December 20 2018 and February 14, this year Nyimbili who was a sales manager at Olympic Express had stolen K24, 791 cash from his employer in Ndola.
When the matter came up for plea before Ndola Chief Resident Magistrate John Mbuzi, Nyimbili pleaded guilty to the charge of theft. According to the statement of facts, Sales Coordinator at Olympic Express Patricia Kayula, discovered that Nyimbili had not made any deposit of sales for the company.
When Ms Kayula inquired from him why he did not e deposit the cash, Nyimbili did not give her a satisfactory answer.
An audit was conducted and it was discovered that different amounts of money had not been deposited in the bank. The total amounted to K24, 791.
The matter was therefore reported to Chifubu police station and officers later arrested Nyimbili.
Nyimbili told the court that he got the money in instalments and used it to start up a business.
During mitigation, Nyimbili pleaded with the court for a chance to pay back his former employer and added that if he went to prison, his family would suffer as he had just married and was the bread winner.
Mr Mbuzi told him that he realised his wrong too late but noted that since the convict was a first offender, youthful and remorseful, he would only go in for 24 months imprisonment with hard labour.
