KALUMBILA Minerals Limited says it will ensure that it complements government’s efforts in developing communities by working with traditional and community leaders through its Corporate Social Responsibility programs.
He was speeking in a speech read for him by Kalumbila Minerals Limited Public Relations Coordinator Miriam Harmon.
The mining firm’s Trident Foundation manager, Garth Lappeman, stated that since the commencement of its operations, it has supported the education sector in the area of infrastructure upgrade.
He said the mining company delights in working with Government and other stakeholders as a way of contributing to national development.
He disclosed that the company has worked closely with the District Education Board Secretary’s office in ensuring that it establishes new schools, put up additional school infrastructure, staff houses as well as VIP toilets.
‘’We are proud to hand over the other pieces of infrastructure to Jiwundu Boarding School as another contribution to the community,’’ he said.
He was speaking yesterday during the handover of the newly constructed kitchen, dining hall and refurbished and wall fenced girls dormitories worth K440, 000.
“During that tour, there was noticeable need to construct a kitchen with an extension of a dining hall, additional toilets and more importantly fencing of the girls dormitory to safe guard the students,’’ he said.
He urged the school management and pupils to safeguard the facility and put it to good use.
“Further, I wish to urge parents to encourage children especially the girl child to concentrate on school,’’ he added.
And gracing the event, North Western Province acting provincial education Officer, Boniface Kanema, acknowledged the vast efforts by the mining firm in helping the community to ease their challenges.
“Our learners will be able to sleep in a very conducive environment. And for that we say thank you to Kalumbila Minerals Limited for the gesture,’’ he said.
And school Parent’s, Teachers Association chairperson Christopher Mingochi thanked the mining firm for the attention and support it has continued to give to the school.
