GOVERNMENT has appealed to the business community in the country to consider taking advantage of the Kazungula Bridge Project which is near completion by investing in the district.
Southern Province Minister, Edify Hamukale, said Kazungula was ripe for various business activities other than cross border business.
Dr Hamukale said oil marketing companies should consider establishing a filling station contrary to the notion that fuel was cheaper in Kasane, Botswana compared to Kazungula.
He said that with the growing population and economic activities, the district was in dire need of infrastructure and the setting up of the filling station would help enhance economic development in the area.
The Minister was speaking when he visited Kazungula to check on progress of the Kazungula Bridge Project which was nearing completion.
“I wish to encourage all entrepreneurs in the oil sector, the Oil Marketing Companies(OMCs) to consider putting up a filling station in Kazungula district, that is a very big community coming up,” he said.
Dr Hamukale advised local OMCs not only to focus on setting up filling stations in urban areas but also consider establishing filling stations in other areas such as Kazungula.
“I know the argument is that fuel is cheaper in Botswana, I don’t think so. Why don’t local OMCs consider setting up a filling station.
“OMCs are crowding Lusaka, they are all over but here is an opportunity and i am talking to fellow Zambians we need that service, we need a fuel station in Kazungula,” he said.
