YOUTHS in Mkushi have decided to procure litter bins for the trading centre to help keep the area clean.
Kasokota Prosper Youth Club chairperson, Emmanuel Cholobola, told the Daily Nation that the club would soon buy six metal litter bins to be placed in strategic places of the Kasokota trading centre.
Mr. Cholobola said the move was aimed at improving cleanliness at the shopping centre, in line with the Presidential directive of Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy.
He said the club previously used to provide 50kg empty bags to shops to dispose litter in but it could not work out well as the sacks usually went missing and hence the decision to procure lockable metallic bins.
Mr. Cholobola said that the club would work in with the community to ensure that the trading centre was kept clean.
“we have decided to buy six big lockable litter bins so that they can be placed at strategic points of the market. One will be placed at the T-junction on the route to the farm bloc via Masansa and the other one by the lay by,” Mr. Cholobola said.
Mr. Cholobola thanked Chief Chitina for his support to the youth club and for allocating land for establishment of a dump site.
He appealed to the area councillor, Lewis Mayuya, and Member of Parliament (MP), Doreen Mwape, to help secure some funds to have the shops frontage paved to avert dust and mud during the rainy season.
