PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has challenged Zanaco to beat Renaissance Sportive de Berkane (RSB) of Morocco in Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup clash at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

The President said the bankers should have it on the back of their minds that they are carrying the Zambian flag and not that of Zanaco, therefore they should ensure they perform well.

The club received these words of counsel when they paid a courtesy call on the President at State House and presented him with the new Umbro |Zanaco replica jerseys.

Lungu said playing away was not an excuse for a draw or defeat.

“Whether playing away or at home, you have to win. I will support every team that makes it to this level.

Bring us joy at the end of the match and finally bring us the trophy. Don’t be like these our friends who believe in just participating,” Lungu said.

He told the Zanaco entourage that he would find time to lead fans in cheering for the team this Sunday.

This was after Zanaco club board chair Hastings Mtine made a plea for his presence at Sunday’s match.

“We hope that you can find time to join us this this Sunday. The boys will be encouraged to know that you have taken interest in the continental assignments.

Your presence will be a good boost to them,” Mtine said.

He said the club was ambitious to put Zambia on the world map.

The Zanaco entourage also included club general manager Marlon Kananda.

Meanwhile, the Moroccan side was scheduled to arrive today at 03:00 hours at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

Zanaco kicked off the Confederation Cup group stages with a 1-1 draw against Daring Club Motema Pembe of Democratic Republic of Congo last Sunday.
