ZAMBIAN champion Isaac Mwape scooped bronze at the Gauteng Open Scrabble tournament held at the weekend in South Africa.
Mwape won 11 of the 16 games played to finish in third place in the tournament that had 14 competitors.
South African Trevor Hovelmeier was crowned as champion with 14 wins and his native Harry Wiggins got silver after winning 12 games.
Veteran Zambian scrabbler Mwenya Munkonge managed to win 10 games to finish in fifth place, a point ahead of Frank Chitambala in sixth place and Justin Chansa was seventh with nine wins.
Mwape, Munkonge and Chansa used the tournament to prepare for the World Scrabble Championship to be held in Goa from October 15 to 20.
