THE Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) has advised members to familiarise themselves with the new Employment Act.
ZICA president Jason Kazilimani Jr said in the new labour law, provisions relating to conditions of service for employees had been strengthened hence accountants ought to understand the new developments.
Mr Kazilimani said the Employment Act Number 3 of 2019 was significant because many of the adjustments would affect the accountants, who equally need to adjust in the manner they handled issues in their daily operations.
He was speaking during the opening of the ZICA 2019 pre- annual general Meeting in Livingstone yesterday.
“Some of us might be happy with the provisions in the Act because we can go on leave for five months.
It is clear it’s a game changer,” Mr Kazilimani noted.
He also called on accountants in the country to be abreast with the provisions of the much anticipated sales tax.
“We need to abreast ourselves with the provisions of the much anticipated sales tax. It is a major tax reform in Zambia which is under discussion in various fora,” said Mr. Kaziliman.
Government has done away with the Value Added Tax and replaced it with the sales tax.
