THE National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) plans to establish a new satellite campus for Southern Province in Livingstone next year, executive director, Royson Mukwena, has said.

Professor Mukwena said NIPA had already concluded undertaking of feasibility studies for the establishment of the Livingstone satellite campus by January 2020.

He said this in Livingstone on Thursday during the official launch of NIPA Southern Province Alumni Chapter.

“The launch of the Southern Province Chapter acts as a precursor to the establishment of the Livingstone NIPA satellite campus. NIPA is asking for support from former students and friends of the Institute in Southern Province as we launch the new campus,” Prof Mukwena said.

Prof Mukwena said the intention of the institute was to also launch a second Alumni Chapter on the Copperbelt Province.

He said NIPA also intended to introduce a Master’s degree programmes by January next year.

Prof Mukwena said the Livingstone campus would also offer programmes in performing and creative arts thereby making NIPA the first institution to venture into this area of study.

Southern Province Permanent Secretary, Mwangala Liomba, said he would support the establishment of a satellite campus in the province as NIPA was well-known for contributing to national development.

Mr Liomba said education was key to the country as it liberated people from poverty, stress and hunger.

He appealed to former NIPA students to encourage young people to acquire an education from the institute.

“NIPA is our own facility as it is a learning institution, operated under the Office of the President, mandated to develop human capacity and contribute to national development by providing quality market driven training, research and consultancy,” he said.

The Institute stands out from the rest of the institutions of higher learning in the country as it is the only institute directly answerable to State House,” he said.

Mr Liomba pledged to support NIPA in establishing the Livingstone campus as well as in identifying a building for the same purpose.
