TRADERS in Ndola with the tendency of sleeping in the markets overnight must stop the trend immediately, the Ndola City Council (NCC) has warned.
NCC Public Relations Manager Tilyenji Mwanza said she was aware that there were traders who were spending nights at the Kapalala market in Masala.
In an interview, Ms Mwanza said traders had a habit of sleeping and living in the markets, which was a health hazard.
She said the traders also used braziers to prepare their meals which also posed a danger of fires.
Ms Mwanza stated that she was aware of the economic hardships that the people were going through and how badly they needed to sell their goods as early as 04:00 hours, but pointed out that spending nights in markers was illegal.
The local authority, she said, would be patrolling Kapalala and other markets in order to curb the nuisance.
Ms Mwanza said those who would be found wanting would be charged for misconduct in accordance with the public health Act.
