ABOUT eight professionals out of the 15 summoned by national team coach Sven Vandenbroek have reported for camp ahead of Wednesday’s 2019 Cameroon Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea Bissau.
Last week, Vandenbroek named a 24 member squad which included 2012 Africa cup winners Rainford Kalaba, Nathan Sinkala, Stoppila Sunzu and goal keeper Kennedy Mweene.
Among those that have reported for camp include Armenian based winger Lubambo Musonda who arrived on Saturday for the must-win fixture.
Musonda arrived together with South African midfielder Salulani Phiri who features for Polokwane City in the ABSA premiership. The duo was welcomed by Chipolopolo team manager Hastings Ndovi.
Phiri played as holding midfielder while Musonda was a second half substitute in the 1-1 stalemate with Namibia last month.
Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates duo of striker Justin Shonga and former Zanaco winger Augustine Mulenga are reported to have joined camp last night while Redbull Sulzburg’s Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu are expected today.
In his second competitive fixture as Chipolopolo head coach, Vandenbroek is hopeful of collecting maximum points.
Despite having been held to a 1-1 draw by Namibia, Vandbroek said he would not make a lot of changes to the team which faced Namibia.
“In the starting line-up, let us wait and see what happens in the weekend, I do not think you need a lot of changes, you also need some consistency in the starting line-up,” said Vandenbroek after naming his final squad.
Zambia and Guinea Bissau will lock horns at Heroes Stadium with the match expected to kick off at 17:30 hours. The Chipolopolo boys are at the bottom in Group K of the 2019 Cameroon AfCON qualifiers, with a point collected from their 1-1 stalemate with Namibia, while their next opponents in the back-to-back fixture, Guinea Bissau are sitting on second place with four points on par with group K leaders Mozambique.
