THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) must expedite the implementation of the quota system on foreign signings in the league.

Former FAZ executive committee member Keagan Chipango said the absence of a quota system has affected local talent.

Chipango in an interview said limiting foreign signings was a delicate issue but there was need to safeguard Zambia’s talent.

“I wish to appeal to FAZ to quickly implement the quota on foreign signings.  It is undeniable that we need foreign talent to improve competition in the league, but not completely to take over the spaces.

“We shouldn’t be like England that developed other nations’ talent, which has seen them struggle to win the World Cup,” Chipango said.

He called on the Zambian players to work hard and aim to emerge the best players in the local league.

Chipango said the local players should not expect to have permanent slots in teams when they have nothing to show.

“The Zambian league has become competitive and today we are seeing clubs signing good players from across borders. That should be a wake-up call on our local players to train harder and show what they are capable of,” Chipango said.
