GOVERNMENT has enhanced domestic revenue collection to ensure that Zambia depends on its own resources for national development, Finance Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe has said
Ms Mwanakatwe said Government was focused on building a nation that was self-reliant by depending on its own resources.
She was speaking in Lusaka yesterday at the official opening of Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) service centre at East Park Mall in Lusaka.
The minister explained that the government had fully demonstrated how it collected and used revenue as on way of enhancing transparency.
She said the ability to show citizens how the taxes were utilised created confidence that indeed paying taxes created a destiny and hope.
“I wish to commend ZRA for reforming and modernising operations to suit the needs and expectations of stakeholders it is only through such initiatives of taking services closer to the people that voluntary tax compliance will increase,” she said.
Meanwhile, ZRA Commissioner-General Kingsley Chanda said the operationalisation of five service centres in Lusaka would assist decongest ZRA offices and bring about improved service delivery to taxpayers.
Mr Chanda said the move would also increase compliance and revenue collection as more taxpayers would be attended to more efficiently and timely.
“Decentralisation of the advice centres will bring services closer to the locations of the respective businesses and thus contribute towards reducing the cost of compliance,” he said.
