…Numba names Zanaco FC squad for Confederations Cup tie

SENSATIONAL Zanaco Football Club coach Mumamba Numba has named his 16-member squad set to take on DC Motema Pembe in the CAF Confederations Cup group C fixture at the weekend.

Zanaco takes on Motema Pembe on Sunday at Complexe Omnisports Stade Martyrs in Congo DR and Numba has selected a fairly tough squad which has seen Zimbabwean international Tafadwa Ruseke bouncing back after missing the last two games for the bankers.

The influential midfielder returns after Zanaco struggled to pick points in the last two league fixtures where the team collected one point from a possible six.

Numba has named Toaster Nsabata and Mangani Banda as the only two goal keepers while, Botswana’s Tiberius Lombard will compete for a starting position in defence with Chipolopolo left back Lawrence Chungu, Jimmy Nakena and former Nkwazi central back Belchance Makiese.

Speaking before departure for Congo DR yesterday, Numba is confident the “bankers” will pick a win away from home.

Numba said he has a team that can pick maximum points in the first group stage game against Motema Pembe.

Meanwhile, Zanaco will be without Captain Ziyo Tembo who suffered an injury in the team’s 3-2 beating by Napsa Stars on Saturday.

Zanaco advanced to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage after a roaring 5-1 home win over Cano SA of Equatorial Guinea at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

Numba’s side advanced to the CAF Confederation Cup group phase 8-2 on aggregate just a week after they beat Cano 3-1 away in Malabo on October 27.
