SIAVONGA district commissioner Lovemore Kanyama has directed police traffic officers to start impounding any government vehicles found in use without authorization.
Mr Kanyama said he was aware that government vehicles were seriously abused by officers who had turned them into personal vehicles.
He commended Works and supply minister, Felix Mutati for embarking on a mission to stop abuse of government motor vehicles and that he should be supported.
He told the Daily Nation in interview that the controller of government vehicles in Siavonga district must have gone to sleep as he had failed to control the abuse of government vehicles driven outside normal working hours.
He directed traffic police officers to take the full responsibility of impounding government vehicles not permitted to be driven after normal working hours. Mr Kanyama said in a statement that the exercise to bring sanity to the operations of government vehicles should be supported.
