THE delimitation exercise embarked on by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) will ease the electoral process during elections, United National Independence Party (UNIP) secretary general Alfred Banda has said.

Reverend Banda said the country had so many large constituencies which had been a huge burden to the ECZ when conducting elections hence the exercise would play a critical role.

He told the Daily Nation in an interview yesterday, there was need for the polling stations to be easily accessible especially in the rural areas.

We have large Constituencies even here places such as Lusaka, Munali, Kanyama, Mandevu and Kabwata, these they really need to be looked into, he said.

He said it was also important that the boundaries for the Constituencies would be able to be determined.

Rev Banda said it was important that all stakeholders especially political parties supported the ECZ on this noble course as it would ease the electoral process.

ECZ Chairperson Essau Chulu during the delimitation launch in Lusaka on Thursday, said the exercise was very important as it would promote effective voter registration and citizen participation in the electoral process.

He said the programme would be undertaken by ECZ from July 18 to November this year and would divide the country into two constituencies.

Justice Chulu said the exercise was an important Constitutional function of the Commission as it was a milestone in the electoral process.

Rev Banda challenged all stakeholders to participate to enable the exercise to be success.
