A Patriotic Front member is nursing wounds in Mwinilunga after he was attacked by United Party for National Development (UPND) members in the ongoing Samuteba local government by-election.

North-Western Province Commissioner Police Hudson Namachila confirmed the incident in a statement and identified the victim as Watson Chilembu, 38.

He said the incident occurred on Tuesday around 18 hours in Samuteba when the UPND is said to have invaded the PF camp and “in the process, one person was injured”.

He said the victim sustained a deep cut on the nose and a swollen left arm as sticks are alleged to have been used.

“And one suspect who is a UPND member identified as Andrew Kamalata has been arrested for assault. He is currently detained and would appear in court soon,” he said.

Mr Namachila urged all political parties to concentrate on issue-based campaigns because police would not tolerate violence to prevent what happened in Kaoma by-election campaigns.
