UPND CADRE SET FREE

THE State has entered a nolle prose qui in a matter United Party for National Development (UPND) Southern Province deputy spokesperson Neto Halwabala is charged with one count of seditious practice contrary to section 57 (1) (b) of the penal code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence were that Halwabala, on a date unknown but between February 23 and 24, 2018 in Livingstone allegedly uttered seditious words.

Halwabala, 40, a teacher in Livingstone, was arrested and charged with the offence to which he pleaded not guilty and trial began before Chief Resident Magistrate Willie Sinyangwe.

The State had indicted that it intended to call more than five witnesses but during trial, only two testified before the State decided to enter a nolle proseque on Wednesday morning which Mr Sinyangwe granted.

Halwabala’s defence lawyer Mulambo Haimbe commended the State for discontinuing the matter instead of applying for adjournments.
