UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) is organising a protest on the Copperbelt hiding under the veil of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), PF founder Edwin Lifwekelo has said.
This follows the announcement by NDC Copperbelt Province youth chairperson, Charles Kabwita that party youths on the province would on
Monday next week hold a peaceful protest against the disparaging remarks on Chishimba Kambwili by suspected PF youths.
Mr Lifwekelo however said it was evident that the UPND was behind the planned protests and wanted to take advantage of the situation to fuel confusion.
He reiterated that UPND wanted to use the NDC to satisfy its selfish desires. “These are schemes of the UPND, how do we know that those guys in the video are not UPND. They cannot fool us,” said Mr Lifwekelo.
And NDC Secretary General, Mwenya Musenge, told the Daily Nation yesteday, he was not aware of the planned protests.
Mr Musenge said the planned peaceful protests had no blessing from him as the secretary general of the party.
The former Copperbelt Minister said the youths did not get any permission from him to stage the protest.
“I am not aware of the protest as the secretary general of the party. The youth have not communicated with me about the development,” he said.
He also said that it would also be illegal for the youth to hold the protest without clearance from the police.
Mr Musenge said, he would not allow youths to engage in illegal protests as it was against the tenets of the party constitution.
He said that it was prudent for youths to engage the leadership than embarking on illegal gatherings which would result in arrests.
