PATRIOTIC Front (PF) member of the central committee Timothy Walamba has warned leaders in various structures to desist from engaging in illegal activities which may dent the image of the ruling party.
Mr Walamba said party leaders should desist from engaging in illegal allocation of land and smuggling of mealie-meal into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)..
He said in an interview at the weekend.
“It is really sad and embarrassing for leaders of the ruling party to engage in any illegal activities. Today , President Lungu speaks against smuggling of mealie-meal , the next day, a PF cadre is found smuggling, what does that mean?
“It means those cadres are indiscipline and therefore, stern disciplinary action must be taken against them. Loyal, patriotic and responsible PF cadres must carry the message of President Lungu to the rest of the country,’’ Mr Walamba said
Mr Walamba urged the central committee to ensure there was unity and discipline in the party.
“The central committee should not hesitate to mete out disciplinary action against party members who are misbehaving. I have observed a lot of misbehaving among some members of the party. We need to change the way things are done.
Mr Walamba who is former Mineworkers Union of Zambia President and High Commissioner to Ghana also urged leaders to deliver to the expectations of the party, instead of using party positions for their own personal and selfish interests.
“Leadership, especially in politics is about promoting unity and attracting people to the party, but if you want leadership because you want to be involved in the illegal sale of plots, then the law will catch up with you,’’ he said.
