NKANA coach Beston Chambeshi has warned Ivorian outfit San Pedro to be ready for a bitter long night on Saturday as his boys will kill in 90 minutes their hopes of a CAF Confederation Cup group stage qualification.
Nkana and San Pedro will clash at Kitwe’s Nkana Stadium in a Confederation Cup play-off first leg tie.
Speaking in an interview yesterday, “Quicksilver” Chambeshi said Nkana was not shaken by “rantings” from Pedro coach Jani Tarek that they were armed to maintain the Ivorian dominance on the 12-time Zambian league champions.
Chambeshi said Tarek’s statement was mere rhetoric as his boys were well psyched to kill the game in the first leg to render the return leg a mere formality.
“That is his (Tarek) opinion, I believe in my boys, they know what’s ahead of us and the more reason everyone has been putting a lot in training. For me, 90 minutes will talk, we just have to work hard and ensure we kill the game on Saturday,” he said.
He expressed satisfaction with the players’ endurance levels and positivity ahead of the game.
“I am happy with their level of endurance, the energy in everyone is inspiring. They are all looking forward to the game,” he said.
Asked on whether the cancelled Tp Mazambe friendly match last Sunday had a negative impact on the team, Chambeshi said though the friendly was part of the training programme to test some players who had not enjoyed game time, Nkana had put behind the setback.
He said the team will use lessons learnt from their previous Champions League match against Tanzanian side Simba FC to overcome the Ivoirians.
Chambeshi called on Zambians to fill up Nkana Stadium to roar support for Nkana to boost the players’ morale.
Meanwhile, a confident looking Pedro side had a successful training session at Nkana Stadium yesterday.
