ABOUT 320 communication towers out of the 1009 budgeted for, have so far been constructed, says Communication and Transport Permanent secretary Misheck Lungu.
Speaking when he launched the Kamkumbauzya tower in Chieftainess Mwanjabantus area in Eastern province, Mr Lungu said out of the 320 towers 200 were already functioning.
He said out of the 1009 towers 113 towers were in Eastern province.
Mr Lungu said the towers that were already on air had grown the customer base immensely
He said the Kakumbauzya tower already was bringing in $36,000 a month.
Mr Lungu said the tower would help in boosting agriculture in terms of information exchange.
And ZAMTEL chief executive officer Sydney Mupeta said the 113 communication towers in Eastern Province was a testimony of the company’s view that the province was one of the most promising markets in the country.
Mr Mupeta said ZAMTEL remained committed to the drive continuous investment in the region through a robust and resilient network.
