ZAMTEL PLEDGES IMPROVED COMMUNICATION IN NGABWE

ZAMTEL says it will do everything possible to bring reliable communication infrastructure that will support the growth potential of Central Province.

Chief executive officer Sydney Mupeta said this was important because Zamtel considered Central Province as one of its key and strategic markets.

Speaking during the commissioning of a communication tower at Londe site in Ngabwe yesterday, Mr Mupeta said Zamtel was committed to partnering with the local administration to spur economic growth.

“As Zamtel, we believe in the bright future of the province and we are committed to partnering with the local administration in order to spur economic growth,” said Mr Mupeta.

Mr Mupeta said the launch of the tower in Ngabwe, a newly created district, fulfilled the company’s commitment to take communication services to all parts of the country.

He said the communication tower would enhance boost communication and businesses for the people of Ngabwe as well as contribute to the social-economic development of the district.

Mr Mupeta said the newly launched tower in Ngabwe district was part of the 1009 sites being constructed under the government communication towers project.

“So far, 318 towers have been constructed and 195 new sites have been commissioned in different parts of the country,” said Mr Mupeta.

He disclosed that so far the communication tower had attracted 3,500 customers and commended the people in the district for their support.

Mr Mupeta urged the people of Ngabwe to continue supporting Zamtel which is government-owned and hence making it their own.

District Commissioner, Melody Phiri said Ngabwe had challenges in communication since it was established in 2012 but that this was a thing of the past now with the commissioning of the tower.

Ms Phiri said the tower had come at a time when the district had witnessed development taking place in the area.

“The launch of the tower has brought development in the area as people will be able to access all digital services such as internet,” said Ms Phiri.

Speaking earlier, council chairperson, Sitabiso Mizinga commended government for the development taking place in Ngabwe district.

Mrs Mizinga said the district had seen so much development in infrastructure and communication.

She also commended chief Mukubwe for contributing to the development of the district by providing land for infrastructure development.
