WITH less than a month to go before staging the 2018 Mr Iron Man body building contest in Chipata, the Zambia Body Building Federation (ZBBF) is still grappling to raise K73, 000 required for the event.
The Mr Iron Man contest is scheduled for May 26 at Protea Hotel and is expected to attract 30 muscle men.
In an interview, ZBBF vice president Brown Ng’ambi said the federation had not raised anything towards the K73, 000.
“We are scouting for K73, 000 to stage the first ever Mr Iron Man body building contest in Chipata. So far we have just been receiving pledges from the business community and it is our hope that they will honour them,” he said.
He appealed to the Chipata business community to come on board and support the growth of the sport.
He explained that the idea behind staging the event in Eastern province was aimed at popularising the sport and identifying untapped talent.
Ng’ambi encouraged body builders in the region to participate in the event.
“We have made it a mandate to spread this sport if we have to win international tournaments. This is a good platform for bodybuilders in Chipata and surrounding areas to showcase their talent, and even win the title,” he said. He disclosed that reigning champion William Sichone from Matero gym was set to defend the title.
